About the work
Acting Men was developed with the architects of a luxury mall and residence project in Istanbul for the garden corridor between the Cartier, Hermès, Gucci and Ferragamo stores. It is one of three works Zeynep Didem Bardakcı made for the same project.
Each of the ten figures holds its own pose and stands on a metal rod about three metres above the ground. The figures never block the walkway; they lift the passer-by’s gaze towards the garden and the façades. They read less as heroes than as everyday people who have stepped onto a stage.
Every figure was modelled in clay at about 70 cm, moulded and cast in fibre. An outer gel coat mixed with bronze particles, finished with patina, gives them the look of cold-cast bronze.
