Birthday Kid

About the work

Birthday Kid was designed for the seventh birthday of the youngest resident of a house in Bodrum, to keep a moment of childhood present in the garden.

One foot on the ground, one arm raised, a child mid-run. The figure was conceived not as a portrait but as the essence of a movement; the face and details were deliberately held back. A round mirrored disc base reflects the sky and forms a second, ever-changing ground beneath the sculpture.

Balance was first worked out on small study figures. Because the work lives outdoors with sun, salt air and changing temperatures, it was made in a stone-textured mineral composite.
